9. Notification of Event, Procession or Filming

If you’re planning an event or procession, by law you may need to notify us or one of our partners in advance. Whether it’s a festival, show, party, static demonstration or march, we’ll work with you and our partners to make sure it goes smoothly. 

If you intend to carry out filming in a public place that has scenes which may generate calls from concerned members of the public, such as the use of imitation weapons or mock fighting you should notify us so that we can use the appropriate policing response. Failure to do so could result in armed officers being deployed to the scene, wasting police resources.

There is no need to fill in this form. However, you should report this to the council where the procession or event is due to take place. We will work with the council and other key partners in processing your notification. Please select from the appropriate link below:

Under sections 11(1) and 11(3) of the Public Order Act 1986, you must tell us at least six working days before the procession is due to take place.

Please note, if you plan to use the road for a march or procession, you'll also need to ask permission from the authority responsible for it, usually the council. Contact them to ask about a temporary traffic order.

  • Event start point and route
  • Number of people you think will be at the event
  • Your organisation's name and address
  • Planned meetings before or after the event
  • Names of anyone scheduled to speak
  • Links to any publicity material
  • Dates when you'll be available to meet us

 

Although you don't legally have to tell us, you may want to let us know about your filming event - especially if your activities could generate any kind of public concern, such as the use of mock weapons, imitation fighting, etc we would appreciate you notifiying us so that we can inform any concerned callers and avoid deploying police officers, or in the worst case scenario armed response.
