Promoted to Detective Sergeant in 2022, currently supervising the Disclosure Team assigned to a large, complex, high profile, murder investigation - I joined Suffolk Constabulary under the Fast Track Detective Entry scheme (FTDE) when it was first launched in November 2017. I chose to become a Detective after spending several years employed within the Criminal Justice System, firstly with the Crown Prosecution Service and latterly as Police Staff with Suffolk Constabulary.
Working for both organisations saw me dealing with a broad spectrum of criminal offences (Murder, Conspiracies, Drugs, Frauds, offences involving Organised Crime Groups, Death by Dangerous Driving, Non-Recent Abuse cases, etc) within specialist departments. I wanted a new challenge, one that would utilise the knowledge, skills and experience I had gained and for me to have more control of an investigation/case from the outset. The FTDE scheme provided this and continued to satisfy my need to serve the public, obtaining justice for victims and to help prevent crime occurring in the first place.
After a spell within the Criminal Investigation Department as a Detective Constable, I joined the Serious Crime Disruption Team, before being seconded to the Joint Major Investigation Team.
I then secured promotion to Detective Sergeant, all within 5 years of joining the Constabulary and since promotion, whilst managing my day job, I also became the DS for the Fast Track Detective Entry Cohort that joined in 2022, supervising the Crime Trainers as well as overseeing the initial and ongoing training of that Cohort until they landed in their Detective roles earlier on this year in 2024.
I have continued to deal with a broad spectrum of offences, securing convictions on Aggravated Burglaries, Conspiracies to Supply Drugs, Indecent Images of Children and many more. My knowledge, skills and experience have grown and I continue to achieve the aims I set when joining through the FTDE scheme, it is hard work and challenging, but is also a very rewarding career.
