Bury St Edmunds - Ninth arrest in attempted murder case

A ninth man has been arrested in connection with an attack in the Moreton Hall area of Bury St Edmunds in March this year.

Police arrested a 19 year-old man yesterday, Thursday 6 August, at a police station in London, on suspicion of attempted murder. He has now been released on bail.

The three men aged 19 years, 59 years and 51 years arrested on 5 August, all on suspicion of attempted murder, have also been bailed.

Police were called at just before 10.15pm on Sunday 22 March to reports of a serious incident in Mortimer Road. A man aged in his 40s was found to have sustained stab wounds and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim spent several weeks in hospital before being well enough to be released.

Police believe this was a targeted incident, with no wider threat to the local community.

In early April, following police enquiries, Sebastian Smith, of Radford Road in Lewisham, was charged with attempted murder.

Four other males, a 24 year old, a 26 year old, a 47 year old and 28 year old, have all previously been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Three men have been arrested in connection with an attack in the Moreton Hall area of Bury St Edmunds in March this year.

One 19 year-old male and a 59 year-old male were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Wednesday 5 August at addresses in London. A third male, aged 51, was arrested in the Haverhill area, also on suspicion of attempted murder.

All three remain in police custody at this time.
