A man from Felixstowe has been given a suspended jail sentence after downloading thousands of indecent images of children.

Christopher Nind, aged 46 and Graham Road in Felixstowe was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday (Mon 4 Nov) after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to six counts of making indecent images.

He was given a suspended sentence of 24 months, suspended for 24 months. He was also given a 35 day rehabilitation order to comply with, a requirement to carry out 100 days unpaid work and is on the sex offenders register for 10 years and was imposed with a 10 year sexual harm prevention order.

On 6 December 2023 police attended the home address of Nind who lives alone, where he was arrested on suspicion of making, taking, possessing and distributing indecent material. A search of Nind’s property saw multiple devices were seized. 30 electronic devices, hard drives and media cards were recovered and brought back for digital forensic examination.

The investigation established 532 category A ( the most serious) images; 907 category B images, 42,157 category C images. Officers also recovered 274 category A videos; 450 category B videos and 234 category C videos

PC Nicola Flack of Internet Child Abuse Investigation Team said: “This was a distressing and difficult case with grotesque images that were created by Nind depicting himself in amongst the child sexual abuse material.

"Some of the movies and images that he has taken were of himself watching child sexual abuse material whilst performing various sexual acts. This included adding horror masks and images of fingers he has added to known child sexual abuse images.”

A sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) is a court order that can be requested by the police, or court when there is a specific concern about an individual. This court order will be requested to prevent a person from engaging in a particular activity and for positive obligations, such as regular polygraph testing.
