A 35-year-old man is due in court this morning, charged with 17 counts of criminal damage in Ipswich.
It follows an incident that occurred in the early hours of yesterday, Thursday 1 May. Police were called to the town centre shortly before 12:40am following reports that a man carrying a skateboard was smashing shop windows.
Businesses along Princes Street, Tavern Street, Queen Street, Friars Street, Coytes Gardens, Falcon Street and Great Colman Street were affected by the incident.
Officers quickly attended and located the suspect at Majors Corner where he was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
Thomas Jeffery, of Horseman Court in Martlesham Heath, has subsequently been charged with 17 counts of criminal damage.
He is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court this morning, Friday 2 May.

Officers quickly attended and located the suspect at Majors Corner where he was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. He has been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he remains.
It is believed that at least 17 businesses along Princes Street, Tavern Street, Queen Street, Friars Street, Coytes Gardens, Falcon Street and Great Colman Street have been affected by the incident.
