A man from Cambridgeshire has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm following an incident in Newmarket.
Police were called at 5.15pm on Monday 16 September to reports that a man had been attacked in the doorway of a premises in High Street.
The victim – a man aged in his 50s – sustained serious facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged.
A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident later the same day and after being questioned at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre, was subsequently charged as follows:
Daniel Mitson, of Chandlers Court, Burwell, charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He was also charged with two further offences: possession of a knife in a public place (in respect of items seized during subsequent searches); and criminal damage to police handcuffs.
Mitson appeared before magistrates in Ipswich this morning, Wednesday 18 September, where he was remanded in custody pending a hearing at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday 16 October.

Police investigating an assault on a man in Newmarket have arrested a suspect.
A man was injured when he was attacked in the doorway of an empty shop in the High Street on the afternoon of Monday 16 September and officers detained a man in his 30s after stopping a car in the town.
The man was appearing in court this morning in relation to other offences and has been bailed for suspected assault causing GBH while officers continue their investigation. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to facial wounds.
Inspector Tim Scott said: “This was a serious assault but I want to reassure the public that we quickly detained a suspect and that there is no wider threat to the community.”
Anyone who witnessed the assault, which took place between 3.05pm and 3.30pm on Monday, is asked to contact Suffolk Police quoting crime reference number: 37/52810/24.
