Tacket Street in Ipswich is currently closed following a collision this morning.
Police were called shortly before 4:30am following reports of a single vehicle collision in Tacket Street, where a car reportedly left the road and collided with a building.
Police, ambulance and fire crew were in attendance to the scene. The front passenger of the car, a man, had to be extracted from the vehicle and has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the car, a man aged in his 20s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving after he failed a roadside drugs wipe test. He has been taken to Ipswich Hospital as a precaution, following which he will be transported to police custody for questioning.
The collision caused damage to two businesses.
Tacket Street is currently closed at the junction with Cox Lane.
Police do not believe anyone else was involved the in the collision and it is not believed to be connected to the assault that took place in the town centre last night.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision and asking any motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle, to review the footage for any material that may be of assistance.
