A man from Felixstowe has been jailed for two years for causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
Matthew Redstall, aged 50 and from the High Road in the town, was jailed at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday 8 November.
He pleaded guilty to seven counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and three counts of possession of an indecent image of a child.
Enquiries established that Redstall had began communicating with a 17 year old girl in 2019. He formed a relationship that became sexual in nature. Redstall was first arrested in 2021 and he was subsequently charged in 2023.
Apart from serving the two year sentence, Redstall has been placed on the Sex Offender Register was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years.
A sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) is a court order that can be requested by the police, or court when there is a specific concern about an individual. This court order will be requested to prevent a person from engaging in a particular activity and for positive obligations, such as regular polygraph testing.
DC Laura Frelford of the Safeguarding Investigation Unit said: “I hope the outcome of this case reassures members of the public that we take such allegations of predatory behaviour extremely seriously and we work to safeguard victims as quickly as possible. We will do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice.”
