A man from Cambridge has been jailed for drugs offences after being arrested by Suffolk police’s Sentinel West team in Newmarket.
On 1 July officers from the team had cause to stop a vehicle after it was seen in Newmarket.
The driver was subject to a search under Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act and officers discovered multiple press seal bags containing powder cocaine hidden within a disposable vape and a quantity of cash located.
Extensive evidence of organised drug supply across Suffolk and Cambridgeshire was located.
Etmont Karitsi 18, of Abbey Street, Cambridge was charged with possession with intent to supply a controlled drug (cocaine) and remanded in custody.
On Friday 1 November Karitsi appeared at Ipswich Crown Court where he was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment and ordered to pay £187 in costs to the court.
Sergeant George Laflin from the West Sentinel team said: “We will continue to make Suffolk as inhospitable as possible for those that come here to distribute drugs and ultimately cause misery within our local communities.
“The overwhelming evidence meant that the defendant entered an early guilty plea.”
The arrest and investigation was led by the Sentinel West team. The three Sentinel teams across the South, West and Eastern areas of the county provide enhanced coverage of Suffolk’s road network to proactively disrupt serious and organised criminal activity as well as increase police visibility.
The mobile unit disrupts criminals and protects communities across Suffolk’s road network using a variety of techniques to deal with offenders involved.
