Three arrested in connection with moped thefts

Police are continuing to increase their overnight patrols in Lowestoft, Beccles and Bungay due to recent reports of small sized motorcycles being stolen.

The motorcycles are stolen overnight, often during the early hours of the morning.

These motorcycles are often, pushed away from the address, tampered with, and then ridden in the area before being dumped.

Since the 19th April, 10 further offences have been recorded:

19/20 April  - Theft of SIL moped from Woodside, Beccles,  37/21887/24

22 April – Theft of moped from Green Drive, Lowestoft and later found damaged and abandoned In Blackheath Woods,  37/22035/24

23 April – Theft of moped from Bonds Meadow, Lowestoft, 37/22450/24

24/25 April – Theft of Suzuki moped from High Street, Lowestoft and later located on Tramways, Lowestoft, 37/22759/24

24 April – Attempted theft of Honda motorbike on Queens Road, Lowestoft, 37/22893/24

28 April – Theft of Keeway moped from Cleveland Road, Lowestoft, later abandoned on Tom Crisp Way, Lowestoft, 37/23476/24

30 April – Attempted theft of a Honda moped from Lakeside Rise, Blundeston. Vehicle damaged during incident, 37/24001/24

29 April – Interference with a motor vehicle (moped) at Lorne Park Road, Lowestoft, 37/23616/24

28 April – Theft of Lexmoto moped from Whapload Road, Lowestoft and later recovered at Montgomery Avenue, 37/23494/24

3 May – Theft of Honda motorcycle  from The Street, Lound, 37/25238/24

Three male youths have recently been arrested and have been bailed to return to police in connection with the series.

Police are urging people to take the following steps to help secure their property overnight.

  • Use a disc lock on the front wheel to stop your bike being taken away. Fit grip locks to the throttle & engage the steering lock.
  • Secure the rear wheel with steel chains and a padlock. Attach the chain to a ground anchor or a fixed object.
  • Bike covers prevent immediate access to the controls and security features and make it more difficult for thieves. Sometimes thieves may also be ‘shopping’ for a certain model and covering it makes it harder for them to find what they want.
