Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious road traffic collision that took place yesterday, Thursday 2 May, on the A14 near J49 Haughley.
Police were called to the scene shortly after 10:25am following reports of a two-vehicle collision on the westbound carriageway, near the roadworks.
The vehicles involved were a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter box van and DAF truck.
The East of England Ambulance service, air ambulance and Suffolk Fire and Rescue were also in attendance.
The driver of the box van, a man aged in his 50s, had to be extracted from the vehicle. He was taken by air ambulance to Addenbrookes Hospital, having potentially sustained life changing injuries.
The driver of the truck, a man aged in his 30s, was treated at the scene but is not believed to have sustained serious injury.
Both directions of the A14 were closed. One lane of the eastbound carriageway reopened at approximately 1:45pm; the road was fully open by 6:15pm.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision and asking any motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle to review the footage.
Anyone with information should contact the Roads and Armed Policing Team at Bury St Edmunds Police Station, quoting reference 37/24316/24.
