A man who returned to the UK in breach of a deportation order has been jailed for possessing false identity documents and must return to prison to serve out a previous sentence for supplying cocaine.
Edison Dautaj, an Albanian national, was stopped by members of Suffolk Police’s Sentinel South team while driving in Ipswich on 30 June. After giving officers a false driving licence and a false address, he was arrested.
Police discovered he was Dautaj, who had been arrested in October 2022 and remanded in custody before being jailed for two years for supplying cocaine and holding a fake identity document. He was then deported in May 2023.
Dautaj pleaded guilty to possessing a counterfeit identity document with intent and driving offences and remanded in custody. He was also recalled to prison to complete his earlier sentence for cocaine supply.
In court on Monday he was sentenced to six months imprisonment and handed a nine-month driving ban.
Sentinel Sgt David Logan said: “This is the second time Suffolk Police have located Dautaj breaking the law in Suffolk. After serving part of his initial 28-month sentence, he was given a deportation order, which he has flagrantly ignored by returning to the UK illegally. When stopping him for the second time we found he was once again using a fraudulent Bulgarian ID document, which we were able to evidence through working with the National Document Fraud Unit. I am pleased that Dautaj’s attempts to fool the authorities has not worked and he has been recalled to serve the remainder of his sentence.”
