Update - two men arrested following Ipswich waterfront assault

Police have arrested two people following an assault in Ipswich.

The incident took place shortly before 12.15am on Sunday 18 August, near the waterfront on Helena Road.

An altercation was reported to have taken place, having first started inside A Listers at Aurora Bar before moving outside the premises.

A man aged in his 30s was reportedly pinned against a vehicle and struck with a glass bottle to the side of the head. He sustained serious head and facial injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening, and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Another man sustained injuries to his hand when he attempted to intervene and stop the incident.

One man suspected of being involved is believed to have left the scene on foot in the direction of the university.

Officers have now arrested two men.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on 21 August on suspicion of assault and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.

He was subsequently bailed to return to police on 21 October.

A second man, aged 25, was arrested on Tuesday, 27 August, on suspicion of assault and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.

He was also subsequently bailed to return to police on 21 October.

Police continue to appeal for any witnesses to the incident, or anyone with information that may assist detectives with their enquiries.
