Two men from London have been jailed after pleading guilty to drugs offences in the Ipswich area.
On 14 February officers from Suffolk’s Sentinel team stopped a vehicle in Dunlop Road, Ipswich. Intelligence gathered from the stop linked a passenger in the vehicle, Aleksander Gjoni, 25, with an address in Cullingham Road in the town.
Officers later witnessed another man attend the address and place filled bin bags into his vehicle. The vehicle was later stopped and the bags were found to contain numerous cannabis plants. The driver, Nikolin Marku, 31, was arrested.
A search of the property in Cullingham Road resulted in the discovery of a cannabis cultivation site with Gjoni arrested at the property.
Aleksander Gjoni, 25, of Vicars Bridge Close, Wembley, Greater London, and Nikolin Marku, 31, of Victoria Road in London were subsequently charged with production of a Class B drug (cannabis) and being concerned in the supply of cannabis.
Both pleaded guilty before being sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday 28 August.
Marku was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment, while Gjoni was handed a nine-month sentence.
The arrest and investigation was led by the Sentinel team. The three Sentinel teams across the south, west and eastern areas of the county provide enhanced coverage of Suffolk’s road network to proactively disrupt serious and organised criminal activity as well as increase police visibility.
The mobile unit disrupts criminals and protects communities across Suffolk’s road network using a variety of techniques to deal with offenders involved.
