Police investigating an incident of arson at a house in Ipswich have released a man on police bail.
Officers were called by Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service at just before 5.20am on Tuesday 13 August to reports of a fire at a premises in Portman Road.
Six people were in the property at the time and managed to escape. Four are uninjured, but two people – a man and a woman – were taken to hospital for treatment to leg fractures after jumping from an upstairs window, and also for smoke inhalation.
A further 11 residents were evacuated from neighbouring properties.
The incident is being treated as suspicious and initial police enquiries lead officers to believe that this was a localised and targeted attack. A police scene remains in place around property and enquiries remain on-going.
A 24-year-old man from Felixstowe arrested in connection with the incident and has been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. He has been released on bail to answer on 12 November 2024.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour in the area prior to the incident.

A further 11 residents have been evacuated from neighbouring properties and arrangements are being made by Ipswich Borough Council to accommodate them in a refuge centre until it is safe for them to return to their homes.
