A 27-year-old man has admitted fatally stabbing his ex-partner in Ipswich earlier this year.
Logan Burnett appeared before Ipswich Crown Court today, Monday 25 November, where he pleaded guilty to the murder of 26-year-old Courtney Mitchell.
The incident occurred on Tuesday 6 August, when police were called to Burrell Road at just after 7.10pm to reports that a woman had been stabbed.
Despite treatment by emergency services personnel, including critical care paramedics from Suffolk Accident Rescue Service, the victim – who was later identified as Courtney Mitchell from Ipswich – died a short time later in hospital.
A Home Office post-mortem examination concluded that the cause of death was fatal injuries from stab wounds to the chest.
Burnett, of All Saints Road in Ipswich, fled the scene after the attack but had immediately been identified as the suspect. Officers began extensive enquiries to locate him and he was arrested at a house in north-east Ipswich the following morning (7 August).
He was taken into police custody for questioning and was subsequently charged on Thursday 8 August, appearing before magistrates the next day.
Burnett has been remanded in custody pending a sentencing hearing to be held at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday 17 February 2025.
Detective Superintendent Nicola Wallace, the Senior Investigating Officer, said: “This was a completely senseless loss of life which has devastated Courtney’s family.
“Logan Burnett is a violent coward who murdered a defenceless woman in front of her friends and members of the public in broad daylight.
“At least by admitting his guilt, Burnett has spared Courtney’s family the additional trauma of a trial, but the pain and anguish his actions that evening have caused will live with them for ever.”
