Two males have been charged in connection with a rape that occurred in Ipswich last week. They have also been charged in respect of a separate matter of sexual assaults against another victim at the start of this week.
The first incident took place between 12am and 1.30am on Friday 29 September, near to a towpath close to the skate park at Stoke Bridge.
The victim, a woman aged in her 30s, reported being taken into some bushes close to the towpath by two males, where she was then raped. The offenders then left the scene.
The sexual assaults all took place in the early hours of the morning on Monday 2 October, against one victim – another woman also aged in her 30s. An initial incident occurred at a bar in the town centre at around 1.30am. Subsequent assaults then took place later that morning, in Luther Road and in Maidenhall Approach.
Police were called at just after 3.35am and a suspect was located and arrested in Maidenhall Approach a short time after. The second arrest was made later in the day on Monday 2 October at an address in east Ipswich.
The suspects were held for questioning at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre since Monday, with detectives making two applications for warrants of further detention at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 3 October and Wednesday 4 October.
Last night, Thursday 5 October, the two suspects – who both resided in Ipswich - have been charged as follows:
They have both been remanded in custody to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today, Friday 6 October.

Police investigating a serious sexual assault that occurred in Ipswich last week have been granted more time to question two people arrested in connection with the incident.
The attack took place between 12am and 1.30am on Friday 29 September, near to a towpath close to the skate park at Stoke Bridge.
The victim, a woman aged in her 30s, reported being taken into some bushes close to the towpath by two males, where she was then raped. The offenders then left the scene.
The victim continues to be supported by specially trained officers and numerous police enquiries are ongoing, including forensic work and CCTV analysis. Local officers have been conducting patrols in the area and anyone with any concerns is encouraged to speak with them.
On Monday 2 October, two males were arrested on suspicion of rape in connection with this crime and they continue to be held at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 3 October, detectives made applications for warrants of further detention at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court in respect of both suspects and were granted an additional 36 hours to question each of them, expiring tomorrow morning (Thursday 5 October).
Detectives are continuing to appeal for any potential witnesses, including anyone who was in the vicinity of Stoke Bridge between 12am and 1.30am Friday morning and noted any suspicious activity.
Any motorists driving in the area between the times stated above who has a dashcam fitted in their vehicle, is asked to review the footage for anything that may be of assistance.

Police are appealing for witnesses or information after a report that a woman was seriously sexually assaulted in Ipswich.
The incident took place in the very early hours of Friday 29 September, sometime between midnight and 1:30am, near to a towpath close to the skate park at Stoke Bridge in the town centre.
The victim, a woman in her 30s, reported being taken into some bushes close to the towpath by two men. The victim was then raped, and the offenders left the scene.
A police scene is currently in place as enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident continue.
The victim is being supported by specially trained officers.
Local officers are conducting patrols in the area and anyone with any concerns are encouraged to speak with them.
