A 59-year-old man has been charged after a serious assault in Lowestoft.
The incident took place at just before 11.10 pm on Tuesday 26 December, in the High Street, near to the Carousel pub. A man in his 20’s was seriously assaulted by another man following an altercation. The victim sustained serious head injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance where he remains. He is described as being in a serious but stable condition.
Police arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and he was taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre.
Simon Clarke, 59, of Stanley Street Lowestoft has now been charged with unlawful and malicious wounding. He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear before Norwich Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday 28 December.

The incident took place at just before 11.10 pm yesterday, Tuesday 26 December, on the High Street in the town, near to the Carousel pub. It is believed that a man in his 20’s was seriously assaulted by another man following an altercation. The victim sustained serious head injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance and is now described as being in a stable condition.
Police arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and he has been taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre where he will be questioned by officers.
A police cordon is currently in place whilst enquiries continue.
Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have been driving on the High Street at the time and has relevant dash-cam footage.
