Vehicle security reminder - Ipswich and south Suffolk

Motorists are being urged to remove valuables from vehicles following recent theft offences in Ipswich and south Suffolk.

In the last week alone there have been at least nine offences, primarily in central and north west Ipswich, relating to theft from vehicles where cash and wallets have been reported as stolen.

The offences have taken place overnight in various locations including Westholme Road, Adair Road, Fulham Way, St George’s Street, Cecil Road and Draymans Way. There have also been reports of vehicle theft offences in Ash Grove in Capel St Mary and Clopton Gardens in Hadleigh.

Officers have established that in some cases the vehicles were left unlocked, however there have been reports of car windows being smashed to access cash and wallets.

As many thefts from cars are opportunist, officers are reminding people to remove valuables from vehicles and ensure they are locked and secure.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are urging communities to remain vigilant to suspicious behaviour and activity.

By taking the following advice, you can reduce the chance of becoming a victim of car crime:

  • Don’t leave valuables on display
  • Park in well-lit places where possible
  • Lock all doors when the vehicle is unattended
