Sudbury - Man bailed in connection with burglary/kidnap

Police who arrested a man after a report of a burglary and kidnap of a girl in Sudbury have released him on police bail.

The incident took place at around 8.15pm on Thursday 7 September at an address on Hall Rise in the town.

It is reported that an unknown man entered the rear of the property through the back door and encountered a young girl on her own in the kitchen. He spoke to the girl before leading her out of the house into the back garden and then lifted her through an open window of the summer house, before fleeing the scene. 

The alarm was raised and the family, who were upstairs at the time, quickly found the girl. 

The girl was not physically harmed but she and her family are being supported by specially trained officers.

A 28-year-old man was arrested yesterday (Sunday, 10 September) on suspicion of burglary and kidnap. He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

He has since been released on police bail, pending further enquiries to answer on Tuesday 3 October.

Police are appealing for witnesses or information after a report of a burglary and kidnap of a girl in Sudbury.

The incident took place at around 8:15pm on Thursday 7 September at an address on Hall Rise in the town.

It is reported that an unknown man entered the rear of the property through the back door and encountered a young girl on her own in the kitchen. He spoke to the girl before leading her out of the house into the back garden and then lifted her through an open window of the summer house, before fleeing the scene. The alarm was raised and the family, who were upstairs at the time, quickly found the girl.

The girl was not physically harmed but she and her family are being supported by specially trained officers.

The suspect is described as a white man, with a skinny build, ginger hair and yellow teeth. He is described as wearing dark clothing and distinctive white trainers with blue laces. He also wore a plain silver ring on one of his fingers.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Connick said: “This is a serious but fortunately rare incident and detectives are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of the incident. Anybody with any information or recognises the man from the description given are asked to contact police.
