A team of police officers from Ipswich have raised around £2500 for charity in honour of their colleague Thomas Barratt.

Tom, who works at the Landmark House base, was found collapsed at work in March 2022. He was diagnosed as having suffered an aeortic valve dissection and was rushed to the Royal Papworth Hospital where, following several hours of emergency surgery, his life was saved. Tom spent several weeks in their care before returning home.

As a sign of appreciation for the care he received Tom, his family, friends and colleagues from Neighbourhood Response Team 5 they walked the Suffolk Coastal Path - a 100km walk over a two-day period - to raise funds for Royal Papworth Charity.

It was a gruelling two days with 16 starters and six finishing the trek.

Tom, who is now back at work, said: "I am so touched by all the support I have received and a big thank you to everyone who has donated to the charity – the money raised will be hugely appreciated by the hospital staff as it will mean the wonderful work they do for patients can continue."

With increasing pressures on the NHS, the charity plays a vital role in ensuring that the hospital continues to provide the highest standards of care by investing in staff development, improving the hospital environment for patients and supporting research into new ways of treating heart and lung disease.
