Mildenhall distraction burglary
Police are appealing for witnesses to a distraction burglary that took place in Mildenhall.
It happened at a property on Field Road on Saturday 15 August at about 10am.
A male entered the property of an elderly woman, aged in her 80s, and gave the impression he was there to service her radiators in the property.
He entered the bedroom and closed the door. When the woman followed him into the room, he left the property with a large amount of jewellery that was left on the dressing table. The items stolen included necklaces, earrings and sovereign rings.
Anyone who knows who the offender was, has experienced a similar encounter recently or saw any suspicious activity at the time should contact Bury St Edmunds CID, quoting crime number 37/47300/20
Police are reminding residents to keep an eye on their neighbours’ homes, particularly elderly neighbours who may be vulnerable to bogus callers or rogue traders.
Always ask for identification from any unexpected callers and do not to let anyone in if you are not comfortable with whom they are and verify their identity with the company they work for.
