Man dies following collision near Chevington

A man has died following a road traffic collision near Chevington.

Police were called just after 6.05pm yesterday, Wednesday 18 January, to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the A143 Poulter’s Lane involving a silver Suzuki and a silver BMW.

Emergency services including the air ambulance, the fire service and a volunteer paramedic from Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) were also in attendance, however the driver of the Suzuki - a man aged in his 80s – sadly died at the scene.

His passenger, a woman also aged in her 80s, sustained serious injuries and was taken to West Suffolk Hospital for treatment where she remains.

The driver of the BMW, a woman aged in her 50s, sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.

The road was closed whilst the collision investigation work was undertaken, reopening shortly after 1:30am this morning – Thursday 19 January.

Officers would like to hear from any potential witnesses to the collision, or anyone who was driving in the area just prior to the incident and who has a dashcam fitted in their vehicle, to review the footage for anything that may be of assistance.

The A143 is currently closed near Chevington following a serious road traffic collision.

Police were called just after 6.05pm this evening, Wednesday 18 January, to reports of a two-vehicle collision.

The A143 is currently closed between Sharpe’s Lane, Horringer and Chedburgh Road near Whepstead.

A diversion is in place through Whepstead.
