Man charged with burglary and theft offences across East Suffolk and Ipswich

A 34-year-old man has been charged in connection with seven offences across East Suffolk, Ipswich and Great Yarmouth.

Police were called at 3.30pm on Monday 23 August to reports of a burglary in progress at a property in All Saints South Elmham.

A man was disturbed by the occupants of the house as they returned home and he made off in a vehicle after being confronted by the victims.

Officers located the suspect vehicle in Flixton around 40 minutes later and arrested a man shortly afterwards, who was then taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre (PIC) for questioning.

Daniel Beresford, of no fixed address, was subsequently charged with attempted burglary in connection with this incident.

He was also charged with a further five offences, also occurring on Monday 23 August, as follows:

-    A burglary at a house in Leiston Road, Aldringham, where jewellery, a tablet device and an air rifle were stolen

-    Two counts of assault with intent to resist arrest occurring in Flixton

-    One count of theft, relating to a stolen mobile phone and charger at Great Yarmouth PIC

Additionally, he was charged with a seventh offence of taking a motor vehicle without consent. This relates to a car taken from Constitution Hill in Ipswich, between 21 and 23 August.

Beresford appeared before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 25 August, where he was remanded in custody pending a hearing at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday 22 September.
