Man arrested following indecent exposures in Wickham Market, Melton and Pettistree

Officers investigating three incidents involving indecent exposures in Wickham Market, Pettistree and Melton last month have arrested a man.

The first incident occurred shortly before 6.30pm on Monday 4 October in a layby near Church Terrace in Wickham Market.

The victim, a woman aged in her 50s, was cycling along Mill Lane when she noticed a reversing vehicle. She waited for a moment and, as the vehicle passed her, she then turned around and noticed that the vehicle was parked in a layby, with the male driver on the bonnet carrying out a lewd act.

The second incident occurred at around 10am on Wednesday 13 October, in Old Church Road, Melton.

The victim, a woman aged in her 40s, was out jogging when a dark grey vehicle stopped near the entrance to a business premises.

As the woman approached the rear of the vehicle, she witnessed the suspect carrying out a lewd act while he was stood in front of the vehicle with his back to the bonnet.

The victim did not stop and carried on running.

A third incident occurred at around 10.35am, also on Wednesday, in a bus shelter in Main Road, Pettistree.

The victim, a woman aged in her 60s, was walking along Main Road towards the Three Tuns, when she noticed a male, who was sitting in the bus shelter, carrying out a lewd act.

A 23-year-old was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure today, Friday 5 November and he was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries. 

Officers are continuing to appeal for any witnesses or anyone who was driving in the nearby area who may have captured any dashcam footage before or shortly after any of these three incidents.

Police are appealing for witnesses or information following three separate incidents involving indecent exposures in Wickham Market, Melton and Pettistree.

The first incident occurred shortly before 6.30pm on Monday 4 October in a layby near Church Terrace in Wickham Market.

The victim, a woman aged in her 50s, was cycling along Mill Lane when she noticed a reversing vehicle. She waited for a moment and, as the vehicle passed her, she then turned around and noticed that the vehicle was parked in a layby, with the male driver on the bonnet carrying out a lewd act.

The male suspect is described as white, of slim build, aged in his early thirties, with brown hair and a beard. He was wearing a black hoodie with white swirly markings on it. He was also driving a black, possibly new, car.

The second incident occurred at around 10am on Wednesday 13 October, in Old Church Road, Melton.

The victim, a woman aged in her 40s, was out jogging when a dark grey vehicle stopped near the entrance to a business premises.

As the woman approached the rear of the vehicle, she witnessed the suspect carrying out a lewd act while he was stood in front of the vehicle with his back to the bonnet.

The male suspect is described as a white and was under 40 years of age.

The victim did not stop and carried on running.

A third incident occurred at around 10.35am, also on Wednesday, in a bus shelter in Main Road, Pettistree.

The victim, a woman aged in her 60s, was walking along Main Road towards the Three Tuns, when she noticed a male, who was sitting in the bus shelter, carrying out a lewd act.

He is described as white and had dark hair.

Inspector Soraya Francis said: “This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable, and we are continuing to utilise all of the information we have in order to identify the suspect as soon as possible.

“We will be carrying out further reassurance patrols in the area as the investigation continues and are urging anyone with any information to contact us as soon as possible.

“Understandably, the actions of this individual have caused distress to the women who witnessed his improper and shocking behaviour.”

Officers would be keen to speak to anyone who was driving in the nearby area who may have captured any dashcam footage before or shortly after any of these three incidents.
