Leiston – Man charged with murder

A 28-year-old man has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing in Leiston earlier this week.

Police were called by the Ambulance Service at 8.50pm on Monday 17 October, reporting that a man had been assaulted at an address in Old School Close.

The victim – a 41-year-old man – was taken to Ipswich Hospital by ambulance in a critical condition, where he later sadly died.

Subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, the deceased has been identified as Agris Leigavnieks, of Old School Close, Leiston.  

A man was arrested near to the scene and initially taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment under police guard, before being transferred to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre (PIC) for questioning.

Oskars Kantors, aged 28, of Old School Close, Leiston, has subsequently been charged with murder and remanded in custody to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Friday 21 October.

Kantors has also been charged with two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm. These are in connection with two alleged incidents also occurring on Monday 17 October as follows:

  • At just before 5pm, a man was reported to have been punched in the face at an address in High Street, Leiston
  • At just after 9pm a woman called police to report that at approximately 8.20pm she had been assaulted at her home in Old School Close, Leiston

A 41-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder yesterday morning (Wednesday 19 October) and taken to Martlesham PIC for questioning, has been released on bail until 8 November 2022 pending further enquiries.

Detectives investigating a fatal stabbing at a house in Leiston have made a second arrest, as they are granted more time to question a man on suspicion of murder.

Police were called by the Ambulance Service at 8.50pm on Monday 17 October, reporting that a man had been assaulted at an address in Old School Close.

The victim – believed to be a 41-year-old man – was taken to Ipswich Hospital by ambulance in a critical condition, where he later sadly died.

A 28-year-old man from Leiston was arrested near to the scene, initially on suspicion of attempted murder. He was taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment under police guard and subsequently further arrested on suspicion of murder, before being transferred to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Following an initial superintendent’s extension allowing detectives a further 12 hours to detain him, officers have today (Wednesday 19 October) applied for a warrant of further detention at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court granting them an additional 36 hours to question him, expiring in the early hours of Friday 21 October.

A further arrest was made in connection with the attack this morning, whereby a 41-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. She has been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Detectives are continuing to treat this as an isolated incident and understand that the victim and suspects were known to each other. Police scenes remain in place in Old School Close.

Police were called by the Ambulance Service at 8.50pm yesterday evening, Monday 17 October, reporting that a man had been assaulted at an address in Old School Close.

The victim – believed to be a 41-year-old man – was taken to Ipswich Hospital by ambulance in a critical condition, where he later sadly died. A Home Office post-mortem examination is due to take place this afternoon.

A 28-year-old man from Leiston was arrested near to the scene, initially on suspicion of attempted murder. He was taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment under police guard and was then subsequently further arrested on suspicion of murder.

The suspect has now been transferred to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Detectives are treating this as an isolated incident and currently understand that the victim and suspect were known to each other.

Police scenes remain in place at four addresses in Old School Close, which are all connected with enquiries into the attack and also an earlier linked incident.

A man has been arrested following a serious assault in Leiston.  

Police were called by the Ambulance Service at 8.50pm yesterday evening, Monday 17 October, reporting that a man had been stabbed at an address in Old School Close.

The victim was taken to Ipswich Hospital by land ambulance in a critical condition. The air ambulance had also been in attendance.

A 28-year-old man from Leiston has been arrested in connection with the attack. He was also taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment, where he remains under arrest.

There are currently police scenes in place at four addresses in Old School Close, which are all connected with enquiries into the attack and also an earlier linked incident.
