Ipswich – Update following air weapon incident

Five teenagers who were arrested in connection with the suspected discharging of an air weapon – which injured two people – have been released on bail, as police enquiries into the incident continue.

Officers were called at just after 4.15pm yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 21 June, to an address on Serpentine Road.

A man outside his property reported being injured on the leg after a firearm, thought to be an air weapon, was discharged from a nearby address. Two other women were also hit by pellets, one of whom was injured.

All injuries sustained are described as minor and nobody required hospital treatment.

Officers from the Roads and Armed Policing Team alongside local units were immediately dispatched and quickly at the scene.

Four teenage boys and one teenage girl were subsequently arrested at a nearby address on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

All five were taken to Martlesham Police Investigation for questioning and have been released on bail until Sunday 17 July, pending further enquiries. An air pistol was recovered during initial searches following the arrests.

Early enquiries lead police to believe it was a contained incident and that there is no wider threat to the community.

Witnesses, or anybody with any information about this incident, is asked to contact South CID in Ipswich, quoting reference: 38747/22.
