Ipswich - Two men arrested following separate bike theft incidents

Two men have been arrested following two separate bike theft incidents in Ipswich.

The first incident occurred shortly after 3pm on Saturday 20 June in St Stephens Lane, when a man attempted to steal a bike by forcing the lock but was unsuccessful.

Officers arrested a 55-year-old man yesterday, Tuesday 30 June, and he was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre, where he was questioned.

Michael Smith, 55, of Waterford Road, Ipswich, was subsequently charged with attempted theft of a bicycle. He was released on bail and is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 1 September.

The second incident took place yesterday, Tuesday 30, between 2.40pm and 3.50pm in Bramford Lane, when a man stole a locked bike by unknown means. The bike was later recovered.

Later the same day, officers arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of theft of a bicycle.

He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre and has subsequently been released under investigation.
