Ipswich – Tribute paid to man who died following balcony fall

The family of a man who died following a fall from a balcony in Ipswich have paid tribute to him. 

Police were called just after 2.35am on Wednesday 24 June, to reports that a man had fallen from the third-floor balcony of a premises in Duke Street. He sadly died at the scene of the incident. 

Subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, the deceased person has been identified as Gary Henderson, aged 64, from Upper Dovercourt in Essex.  

We have been asked to issue the following tribute on behalf of Mr Henderson’s sister, Kim Henderson: 

“My whole family are devastated by the sudden death of my brother in these unexplained circumstances.

“Gary was a gentle and very caring man who would always help anybody in need. 

“I’ve received a lot of calls from people touched by his kindness and that’s how he will always be remembered.

“I appeal to anyone with information that could help police inquiries to come forward and speak to the case officers.”

The police investigation into Mr Henderson’s death continues. 

Three people have been arrested as part of the inquiry – all on suspicion of murder – and were taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. Their details are as follows: 

-    a 26-year-old man from the Harwich area, who was released under investigation

-    a 24-year-old woman from Ipswich, who was released on police bail until Wednesday 22 July 

-    a 27-year-old man from Ipswich, who was released on bail until Thursday 23 July

The third person arrested in connection with the death of a man in Ipswich has been released on bail, as enquiries into the incident continue.  

Officers were called just after 2.35am on Wednesday 24 June, to reports that a man had fallen from the third-floor balcony of a premises in Duke Street.

The man was declared deceased at the scene by ambulance personnel. A Home Office post mortem examination concluded that the cause of death was a severe traumatic head injury.

Subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, the deceased person has been identified as Gary Henderson, aged 64, from Upper Dovercourt in Essex. 

Yesterday afternoon, Thursday 25 June, a 27-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre (PIC) for questioning and has now been released on bail until Thursday 23 July pending further enquiries.

Two other people were arrested shortly after the incident on Wednesday morning, also on suspicion of murder, and taken to Martlesham PIC for questioning. Their details are as follows:

  • a 26-year-old man from the Harwich area, who was released under investigation
  • a 24-year-old woman from Ipswich, who was released on police bail until Wednesday 22 July, pending further enquiries.

The police investigation into the incident continues, as detectives work to establish the full facts of what took place in the moments prior to Mr Henderson’s death.

Police investigating the death of a man who fell from the balcony of a flat in Ipswich, have arrested a third person in connection with the incident. 
 
Officers were called just after 2.35am yesterday morning, Wednesday 24 June, to reports that a man had fallen from the third-floor balcony of a premises in Duke Street.
 
The man was declared deceased at the scene by ambulance personnel. A Home Office post mortem examination concluded that the cause of death was a severe traumatic head injury.

This afternoon, Thursday 25 June, officers investigating the incident arrested a 27-year-old man from Ipswich on suspicion of murder. He has been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre (PIC) for questioning.

A man who died following a fall from the balcony of a flat in Ipswich is being named by police, as enquiries into the incident continue. 

Officers were called just after 2.35am yesterday morning, Wednesday 24 June, to reports that a man had fallen from the third-floor balcony of a premises in Duke Street.

The man was declared deceased at the scene by ambulance personnel. A Home Office post mortem examination conducted yesterday, concluded that the cause of death was a severe traumatic head injury. 

Subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, the deceased person has been identified as Gary Henderson, aged 64, from Upper Dovercourt in Essex.  

A 26-year-old man from the Harwich area and a 24-year-old woman from Ipswich were subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

The man has now been released under investigation and the woman has been released on police bail until Wednesday 22 July, pending further enquiries. 

Detectives have been continuing with their efforts to establish the facts of what took place in the moments prior to Mr Henderson’s death. This has included forensic work, along with extensive house-to-house and CCTV enquires.

Police can confirm that a man has died following an incident at a flat in Ipswich and that two people have been arrested as part of the investigation.

Officers were called just after 2.35am this morning, Wednesday 24 June, to reports that a man had fallen from the third-floor balcony of a premises in Duke Street.

The man, aged in 60s, was declared deceased at the scene by ambulance personnel.

Police have carried out enquiries to identify the family of the deceased who have now been informed.

A 26-year-old man from the Harwich area and a 24-year-old woman from Ipswich were subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre where they currently remain for questioning.
