Ipswich – Man charged in connection with drug offences

A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with drug offences in Ipswich.

At approximately 7.40pm on Thursday 29 July, officers from the Sentinel South Team requested a vehicle to stop while on patrol in the town.

Following the stop in Robin Drive, two people – a man and a 32-year-old woman – were detained for a search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

A quantity of suspected Class A drugs - cocaine was also located within the vehicle.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply – Class A drugs and for being disqualified from driving. She was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and was later released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Shamir Kakeli, of no fixed addressed, was subsequently charged was possession with intent to supply Class A drugs – cocaine and being concerned in supplying Class A drugs – cocaine.

Kakeli appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 31 July, where he was remanded into custody. He is next due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on 27 August.
