Ipswich – Man appears at court charged with dangerous driving

A 36-year-old man has appeared at court charged with dangerous driving and other offences, following a collision in Ipswich at the weekend.

The incident occurred just after midnight on Saturday 24 July in Bramford Road, at the junction with Norwich Road.

Officers on patrol in the town had cause to request a black Audi TT to stop in Sirdar Road, but it made off from the police vehicle before colliding with a lamppost moments later, a few hundred yards away.

One occupant of the car ran away from the scene of the collision, before being quickly detained by police. A second occupant was initially taken to hospital for a check-up, before being discharged later that morning.

Jason Nicholls, of Hawke Road, Ipswich, was arrested in connection with this incident and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre (PIC) for questioning.

He was subsequently charged with the following four offences: dangerous driving; driving without insurance; driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence; and possession of a Class A drug.

Nicholls appeared before magistrates yesterday, Monday 26 July, where he was remanded in custody pending an appearance at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday 23 August.

A 37-year-old man from Ipswich was also arrested as part of this investigation, on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking. He was taken to Martlesham PIC for questioning and released under investigation, pending further enquiries.
