Friston – Sudden death update

Police investigating the death of a man in Friston at the weekend believe they now know his identity.

Officers were called at 8.50am on Saturday 9 September by a member of the public, reporting they had discovered a body in a field off Snape Road.

Police and ambulance units attended and confirmed the death, which is not being treated as suspicious.

Following initial police enquiries the deceased was not able to be identified and there had been no missing persons reported that matched his description.

A media appeal was issued yesterday, Tuesday 12 September, for help to identify the man. As a result of this a member of the public contacted police and although formal identification procedures have yet to take place, officers are satisfied at this time they know who the man is.

Police would like to thank members of the public and media for their assistance with this appeal.

Police are appealing for help to identify a man who was found deceased in Friston at the weekend.

Officers were called at 8.50am on Saturday 9 September by a member of the public, reporting they had discovered a body in a field off Snape Road.

Police and ambulance units attended and confirmed the death, which is not being treated as suspicious.

However, following initial police enquiries the deceased has not been identified and there have been no missing persons reported that fit his description. The field had recently been harvested for potatoes and it appears the man had been gleaning for leftover potatoes with a trowel.

The deceased is described as white, believed to have been aged in his 60s, of medium build, and with receding blond/grey hair. He was wearing a blue short-sleeved t-shirt and khaki shorts. A silver bicycle was found nearby which is thought to have belonged to him.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who believes they may know who this man is. That includes anyone who may have seen a man on a bike matching the description above in the local area towards the end of last week; or anyone who has a relative, friend, or neighbour who they haven’t heard from over the past few days.

Anyone with information is asked to contact East CID at Lowestoft Police Station, quoting reference: 52671/23.
