Bury St Edmunds – Offensive weapon incident

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man is reported to have brandished a meat cleaver and exposed himself in Bury St Edmunds town centre.

The incident occurred between 4.30pm and 4.40pm on Monday 29 November in the vicinity of Risbygate Street and School Yard.

A man is alleged to have made threats towards another man and a woman whilst holding a meat cleaver, following which he exposed himself.

Police were called and officers subsequently arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

The suspect was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning and was later further arrested on suspicion of affray and exposure. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

It is believed there were several members of the public in the area at the time the incident took place and officers would like to hear from any witnesses who have not yet been spoken to.
