Bury St Edmunds – Man charged in connection with assaulting two police officers

A 36-year-old man has been charged in connection with assaulting two police officers in Bury St Edmunds.

The charges follow an incident at West Suffolk Hospital on Saturday 1 August, when a man threw a rock that hit a police officer on the back of their head, causing a cut.

Another officer was punched on their hands and scratched on their forearms.

The man was later taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Michael Johnson, of Eyre Close, Bury St Edmunds, was subsequently charged with assault on an emergency worker and assault causing actual bodily harm.

Johnson appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Monday 3 August and is next due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday 3 September.
