Redgrave - Tribute to victim of fatal collision

Tributes have been paid to a 67-year-old man who died following a road traffic collision in Redgrave last month.

The collision occurred at around 9.40am on Friday 23 August in Fen Street, between a cyclist and a tractor and trailer.

Leonard Bates, from the Ingham area and who was the cyclist involved, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the West Suffolk Hospital for treatment, but sadly died the following day.

Mr Bates’ family have asked us to issue the following tribute on their behalf:

“Len Bates was tragically taken from us on the morning of the 24th August 2019, having been involved in a collision the day before whilst enjoying one of his regular cycle rides.

“Len was very much loved by his wife Sue and his boys Andrew and Peter.

“He was friendly and outgoing, Len would help anyone who needed him and had a lot of time for his family and friends.

“He will be sorely missed by his family, his friends, and everyone that knew him."

A 67–year-old man has died following a collision in Redgrave yesterday morning (Friday 23 August).

The collision occurred between a cyclist and a tractor and trailer on Fen Street at around 9.40 am yesterday (Friday 23 August) and was attended by emergency services.

The cyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to the West Suffolk Hospital by ambulance for treatment, but sadly died today (Saturday 24 August). Next of kin have been informed.

Pending formal Coroner’s inquest proceedings and formal identification procedures, the deceased has been identified as 67-year–old Leonard Bates from the Ingham area.

The road was closed yesterday while officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Team carried out enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed or has any information about this incident is asked to contact the Serious Collision Team at Suffolk Police, quoting reference CAD 79 of 23 August.

A man remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition today, following a collision in Redgrave yesterday morning (Friday 23 August).

The collision occurred between a cyclist and a tractor and trailer on Fen Street at around 9.40 am yesterday (Friday 23 August) and was attended by emergency services.

The cyclist, a man in his late 60s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the West Suffolk Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

Emergency services are currently on the scene of a serious road traffic collision in Redgrave, near Diss.

Officers were called at approximately 9:45am today, Friday 23 August, to reports of a collision on Fen Street.

The road is currently closed at the B1113 and motorists are advised to find an alternative route.
