Update - serious sexual assault in Ipswich

A teenager arrested on suspicion of rape in Ipswich has been released under investigation.

The incident took place at approximately 3:40am yesterday morning, Thursday 15 August, in Alderman Park in the town and was reported to police at around 4am.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, had been in contact with a man online and arranged to meet him in the park. After meeting, the woman reports that the man grabbed her before then raping her. The offender then left the area.

A 19-year-old man from the Ipswich area was arrested in the early hours of this morning, Friday 16 August, on suspicion of rape. He has subsequently been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Ipswich - Serious sexual assault - 15/08/19

Police have launched an investigation following a report of a serious sexual assault in Ipswich.
 
The incident took place at approximately 03:40am this morning Thursday 15 August in Alderman Park in the town and was reported to police at around 04:00am
 
The victim, a woman in her 20’s, had been in contact with a man online and arranged to meet him in the park. After meeting, the woman reports that the man grabbed her before then raping her. The offender then left the area.
 
The suspect is described as a mixed race man, around 5 feet 8 inches tall, in his late teens or early 20's, with dark hair, short beard and was wearing a dark coloured jacket.
 
A police cordon in part of Alderman Park remains in place at this time.
 
Trained specialist officers and police staff continue to work with the victim whilst extensive enquiries are ongoing in the local area to identify the person responsible.

Ipswich - Man arrested in connection with serious sexual assault - 16/08/19 morning

Detectives investigating the rape of a woman in Ipswich have arrested a teenager in connection with the incident. 

The incident took place at approximately 3:40am yesterday morning, Thursday 15 August, in Alderman Park in the town and was reported to police at around 4am.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, had been in contact with a man online and arranged to meet him in the park. After meeting, the woman reports that the man grabbed her before then raping her. The offender then left the area.

A 19-year-old man from the Ipswich area was arrested in the early hours of this morning, Friday 16 August, on suspicion of rape. He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning where he remains.

Detectives continue to appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident or who may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
