Bury St Edmunds – Second man charged following railway incident

A second man has been charged following an incident at Bury St Edmunds Railway Station last week.

While on duty, officers had cause to stop and search two men shortly before 1pm on Thursday 11 July, within the station in Station Hill.

One of the men resisted arrest and ran onto the railway tracks. Trains were suspended temporarily while officers dealt with the incident and the man, who was found to be in possession of a machete, was detained.

The two men - aged 18 and 22 - were arrested and were taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Aaron Neziri, 18, of no fixed address, was subsequently charged with possession of a knife/ bladed article.

On Friday 12 July, Neziri appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court where he was remanded. He is due back at the same court on Friday 2 August for sentencing.

The second man - Flynn Matthews, 22, of Eldith Avenue, Fordham, Ely, Cambridgeshire - was charged on Friday 12 July with the following offences:

-             Possession of a knife/ bladed article, trespassing on a railway and for obstructing an officer.

He was remanded and was due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 13 July.

One man has been charged and a second man remains in custody following an incident at Bury St Edmunds Railway Station.

While on duty, officers had cause to stop and search two men shortly before 1pm yesterday, Thursday 11 July, within the station in Station Hill.

One of the men resisted arrest and ran onto the railway tracks. Trains were suspended temporarily while officers dealt with the incident and the man, who was found to be in possession of a machete, was detained.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife/ bladed article and aggravated burglary in connection with a separate incident.

They were both taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Aaron Neziri, 18, of no fixed address, has subsequently been charged with possession of a knife/ bladed article. He was remanded and is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today, Friday 12 July.

A 22-year-old man, who remains in police custody, has subsequently been arrested on suspicion of four further offences:

- Actual bodily harm, grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary and trespassing on a railway.
