Ipswich – Man jailed following business burglaries

A 34-year-old man has been jailed for two offences of burglary following two incidents in Ipswich and Hollesley in March.

Scott Hyam, of Leopold Road, Ipswich, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment when he appeared before Ipswich Crown Court on Monday 4 May.

The first incident occurred at around 2.20am on Sunday 15 March at the Co-operative in Ulster Avenue in Ipswich.

During the early hours, entry was gained by smashing a glass panel in a door. Once inside, a number of items were stolen including alcohol, food and drink.

A further incident occurred at around 4.40am later the same day at McColls in The Street, Hollesley.

At some point, entry was gaining by smashing the door and once inside, a quantity of alcohol was stolen.

Following an investigation, Hyam was arrested on Friday 3 April and he was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre where he was questioned.

Hyam was subsequently charged with two offences of burglary and he was remanded into custody. He first appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 4 April.

Hyam was also ordered to pay a £149 surcharge when he appeared at crown court on Monday 4 May.

Police have arrested two men in connection with two recent burglaries in the county.

Following an investigation, police arrested two men on Friday 3 April. They were taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre where they were questioned.

Scott Hyam, 33, of Leopold Road, Ipswich was subsequently charged with two offences of burglary other than dwelling.

He was remanded into custody and appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 4 April and is next due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on Saturday 4 May.

A 30-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of burglary. He was subsequently released under investigation pending further enquiries.
