Man charged in connection with Lowestoft incident

A man has been charged in connection with an incident where two police officers were seriously assaulted in Lowestoft on Thursday 5 December.

As part of a pre-planned operation, Police attended an address on Tonning Street in the town at around 4:45am. Shortly after arriving, a male occupant in the property sprayed a noxious liquid at two police officers.

Both male officers were then taken to James Paget Hospital by ambulance for treatment. One officer has sustained facial burns and the second officer sustained minor injuries. Both have now been released from hospital.

A man was arrested a short time later on suspicious of grievous bodily harm and was taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

49 year old Mark Bedwell of Tonning Street was charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm. He is due to appear before Norwich Magistrates Court this morning ((Friday 6 December)

A man has been arrested after two police officers were seriously assaulted in Lowestoft this morning, Thursday 5 December.

As part of a pre-planned operation, Police attended an address on Tonning Street in the town at around 4:45am. Shortly after arriving, a male occupant in the property sprayed a noxious liquid at two police officers.

Both male officers were then taken to James Paget Hospital by ambulance for treatment. One officer has sustained minor facial burns and he remains in a stable condition in hospital. The second officer sustained minor injuries.

A 49-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicious of grievous bodily harm and he has been taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

A scene is in place at the address whilst police continue their inquiries into the circumstances of this incident.
