Ipswich – Man charged after assault in town centre bar

A man has been charged in connection with an assault at a bar in Ipswich, which occurred at the beginning of the month.

Police were called just before 1.40am on Sunday 3 November, to reports that a man had been attacked inside Degero in St Nicholas Street.

The 29-year-old victim was reported to have been involved in an altercation with the suspect outside the toilets on the first floor, which then continued at the bottom of the stairs.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which were not life-threatening or life-changing.

Shadrach O’Connor, aged 26 and of no fixed abode, was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police in the Hounslow area of west London on Friday evening (15 November) and brought back to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

He has subsequently been charged with the following two offences: causing grievous bodily harm with intent; and possession of a knife in a public place.

O’Connor was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 18 November.

A man is currently in hospital after sustaining serious injuries during an assault at a bar in Ipswich. 

Police were called just before 1.40am this morning, Sunday 3 November, to reports that a man had been attacked inside Degero in St Nicholas Street. 

The 29-year-old victim was reported to have been involved in an altercation with the suspect outside the toilets on the first floor, which then continued at the bottom of the stairs. 

Detectives do not believe this to have been a random attack and currently understand that the victim and suspect are known to each other.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries. His condition is stable and the injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.
