Leiston/Friston – Man charged with drugs offences

A 50-year-old man from Leiston has been charged with five offences, including the supply of Class A drugs in the town.

Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 31 March, officers from the East Scorpion Team who were on patrol in the area of Haylings Road, witnessed what they suspected to be an exchange of drugs take place.

They stopped and detained two men shortly after this, seizing a quantity of heroin and £200 in cash. One man was arrested and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

A search of an address in Leiston then led to the discovery of further heroin, with an estimated street value of £1,300.  

Anthony Kelly, of Haylings Road, Leiston, has subsequently been charged with five offences. Two of these are alleged to have taken place in Leiston yesterday as follows:

  • Supplying heroin; and possessing heroin with intent to supply

He was also charged with a further three offences, relating to an incident in Friston on Friday 14 February, when officers had cause to stop a Peugeot 307 on the A1094. These charges are as follows:

  • Possession of heroin with intent to supply; driving without insurance; and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Kelly was remanded in custody to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday 1 April.
