Applications are invited for the above full time posts in the 24/7 Contact and Control Room, at Police Headquarters, Martlesham. It’s not an easy job working in our Contact and Control Room, but it can be hugely rewarding. There are certain skills that you will need to have, and we will test you during the recruitment process.
For example, you will:
Speak with callers (including 999) who may be vulnerable, confused, distressed, frightened or even angry
Frequently make difficult decisions whilst under pressure prioritising conflicting demands and personally taking responsibility for delivering the right service
Give advice over the telephone to the public on lots of different issues
Learn to use our cutting edge digital radio communication system to direct police officers often multi-tasking difficult and demanding situations
Be confident using cutting edge IT systems and already able to audio type (type written text whilst talking on the telephone) at 30 words per minute. This will be tested.
If you think you have what it takes we encourage you to apply and all applicants will be required to demonstrate all essential criteria contained within the job description, at application.
All short-listed candidates will be asked to attend an assessment centre and possibly a competency based interview.
Successful applicants will be required to undertake induction training for a 5 week period, Monday to Friday, 0900 – 1700 daily. Shift allowances will be paid after 5 weeks of training when candidates join their teams and shift patterns within the control room.
Hours of work are 37 per week on a rotating shift pattern including days, late and night shifts followed by 4 rest days. Shift patterns, which are regularly reviewed, will include weekend and bank holiday working for which the appropriate allowances will be paid (subject to review). Please note there is no opportunity to reduce any late and night shift working, this role necessitates the completion of the full shift rotation. This post is offered on a permanent basis, subject to probation. Applicants who have applied within the last 6 months need not re-apply.
If you would like an informal discussion about the post, please contact the Contact and Control Room Manager, Suffolk Constabulary on (01473) 613766.
