This area stretches from Hopton in the North to Horringer in the South and includes the medieval town of Bury St Edmunds. Bury St Edmunds, with a population of around 45,000, is famous for its 1,000 year old abbey, a 14-acre park and the market town is also host to the historic Theatre Royal. The town also features a cathedral, Angel Hill, Moyes’s Hall and the Guildhall. Outside of the town itself are Ickworth House and Estate, Nowton Park, West Stow Country Park and Knettishal Heath nature reserve, with the latter being a site of special scientific interest on the edge of ‘The Brecks’. It is also the start of the Peddars Way, following the 49-mile route of a Roman road which makes its way to Holme-Next-The-Sea on the Norfolk coast.
