Bike Safe is a nationwide police initiative that has a simple
aim… to reduce motorcycle casualties.
The Suffolk Bike Safe campaign looks to achieve rider safety by
improving rider’s awareness and ability whilst on the road. Suffolk
Police runs a series of ‘Bike Safe' motorcycle workshops aimed at
all riders who want to improve their skills and ability to become
better and safer riders.
The courses are run within the spirit of Bike Safe a
nationally recognised police run biking initiative, where education
is the key not enforcement, in a conflict free environment. The
course provides riders with professional advice that will identify
you’re strengths and weaknesses as a rider.
The Bike Safe initiative is aimed at riders living across
Suffolk who want to learn and develop their ability on the road. It
is a nationally recognised Police scheme supported by the Home
Office and the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO).
Suffolk Police runs Bike Safe in Suffolk with the support
of Suffolk Ride
Network, Orwell Motorcycles
and The Highways Agency.
The cost of the two-day course is £55.00 per person and are run
from Police Headquarters, Martlesham Heath, Ipswich.
The course starts on Friday evening with classroom sessions
on the system of road craft with particular attention given to
positioning and cornering.
On the Saturday morning, an escorted ride out session with a
Class 1 Police Motorcyclist. A 3:1 ratio ensures an accurate and
personalised assessment of your riding performance will be provided
at the end of the session.
Following a light lunch that is provided, an informative
classroom session with external guest speaker on first aid brings
the course to an end.
