Private aircraft pilots
The Terrorism Act 2000 came into force on 19 February 2001. It
replaces all previous legislation concerning terrorism.
This law impacts upon general aviation and the responsibilities
of pilots and owners.
The requirement to seek authority to fly to and from the Common
Travel Area (Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Northern Ireland and
Eire) from non-designated airfields remains.
However the notification period has been reduced from 24 hours
to a minimum of 12 hours.
It is an offence to fail to comply with this requirement.
We recommend as best practice that if you are flying from a
non-designated airport to any destination outside mainland U.K.,
that you submit a flight notification to the Suffolk Police Ports
Unit.
Under the Terrorism Act 2000, it is a requirement of the
aircraft pilot/captain to complete this document in respect of all
flights to and from the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Eire and
Northern Ireland.
It must be submitted for police authorization no less than 12
hours prior to the flight. It is an offence to fail to comply with
this regulation.
