Key Facts

• Leiston & Aldeburgh SNT is in the Suffolk Coastal District and boasts a fine shoreline with a number of resorts and wildlife habitats
• Leiston cum Sizewell is a rural town with a population of 5,500. It has a diverse community and owes much of its heritage to the Richard Garrett Works, established at the end of the 1700’s
• It ran until the early 1970s and the town developed along side the industry. This is apparent in the style of the town architecture which bears resemblance to the pit towns of south Yorkshire. The Long Shop museum in Leiston displays many of the engines manufactured by Garretts
• Leiston is the home of the oldest purpose built cinema in the country
• Aldeburgh is known as a tourist destination and the home of the 'Scallop' sculpture which takes pride of place on the town's beach
