• The Babergh West Safer Neighbourhood Team covers a predominantly rural area that comprises ten electoral wards of Brett Vale, Boxford, Bures St. Mary, Chadacre, Glemsford and Stanstead, Lavenham, Leavenheath, Long Melford, North Cosford and Waldingfield. These wards incorporate a total of 35 villages.
• Babergh West has a resident population of 24,930. Development within the Babergh West area ranges from remote properties that are sometimes inaccessible in the winter to modern densely populated housing and industrial estates.
• Farming and agriculture is a vital part of the local economy with over 400 farms in the Babergh area.
• Many of the timber-framed buildings in these villages date back to the Medieval or Tudor times such as Kentwell Hall in Long Melford and The Guildhall in Lavenham. The area has been used as a picturesque backdrop to film and television programmes, some of the BBC series ‘Lovejoy’ was shot in Long Melford, and Lavenham has been used in a recent ‘Harry Potter’ film.
