A man and a woman have been charged with murder following the
death of Christopher Thompson in Chantry Park in Ipswich.
Christopher Wilson, 33, and Deanna Stanton, 26, both of
no fixed abode, were arrested yesterday, Friday 16, after Mr
Thompson's body was found in the park on Thursday morning,
15 November.
Both were taken into custody at Martlesham Police
Investigation Centre where they were interviewed by detectives in
connection with his death.
This evening, Saturday 17, the Crown Prosecution Service have
authorised police to charge them both with murder.
They will be held in custody at Martlesham pending an
appearance at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday, 19
November.
Update 1.20pm 17 November 2012
A 33-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman arrested on
suspicion of the murder of Christopher Thompson at Chantry Park in
Ipswich remain in custody at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre
this afternoon.
A superintendent has granted a custody extension allowing
police to hold the man and woman for up to a further 12 hours. If
necessary officers then can apply to magistrates for further time
to question the two.
The 33-year-old and 26-year-old, both of no fixed
abode, were arrested in Ipswich yesterday afternoon, Friday 16
November, after Mr Thompson's body was found in the park on
Thursday morning, 15 November.
A 42-year-old man from Ipswich arrested on Thursday in
connection with the murder has been bailed to return to police on
Tuesday 8 January as officers continue to investigate what happened
prior to Mr Thompson's death.
Some cordons remain in place at the park as these enquiries
continue, but these are expected to be lifted around 2pm today.

A man arrested on suspicion
of murder has been released on police bail.
The 42-year-old from Ipswich was arrested after the body of
Christopher Thompson was found in Chantry Park, Ipswich on Thursday
15 November.
He was taken to the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre (PIC)
and has since been released on bail. He is now due to return on
Tuesday 8 January 2013.
A 33-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman both of no fixed abode

the Martlesham PIC, where they remain.
Chantry Park has now been reopened though some areas still
remain cordoned off. Police would like to thank members of the

Update 1.55pm
Police have made two further
arrests as part of their investigation into the death of a man
whose body was discovered in Chantry Park, Ipswich.
Christopher Thompson, aged 35 and formerly of London Road,
Ipswich, was found deceased by a member of the public at around
6:50am yesterday morning, Thursday 15 November.
This afternoon a 33-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman both of
no fixed abode were arrested in the town on suspicion of murder.
They have since been taken to the Martlesham Police Investigation
Centre.

held last night and the preliminary cause of death has been given
as strangulation and assault injuries.

Suffolk Police are
today naming a man whose body was found in Chantry Park, Ipswich
yesterday morning, Thursday 15 November.
Police received a call from a member of the public at around
6:50am, reporting the discovery. Officers attended the park, which
was then closed and areas within were cordoned off.
The park remains closed this morning as police continue to
examine the scene.
Formal identification of the deceased has now taken place and
the man can be named as Christopher Thompson, aged 35 years old and
formerly of London Road, Ipswich.
A Home Office post mortem examination in Mr Thompson’s death was
held last night and the preliminary cause of death has been given
as strangulation and assault injuries.
A 42-year-old man from Ipswich, arrested on suspicion of murder,
remains in at the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre after a
Superintendent this morning authorised a 12-hour extension of the
custody time limits.

Update 5.20pm
Chantry Park in Ipswich will remain cordoned off this evening
after a man’s body was found on grassland this morning,
Thursday 15 November.
Police received a call from a member of the public at around
6:50am, reporting the discovery. Officers attended the park, which
was then closed and areas within were cordoned off.
The park will remain closed throughout the evening and officers
will be conducting reassurance patrols in the area.
Police would like to thank members of the public for their
patience and are asking that people do not try and gain entry to
the park until further notice.
A 42-year-old man from Ipswich has been arrested on suspicion of
murder and taken to the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre
where he remains.
Police are currently in the process of informing the man’s
family and will not release his name until this is complete.
However, the man is believed to be in his thirties and from the
Ipswich area.
A Home Office post mortem examination will take place in due
course to ascertain the cause of death.

man’s body was found by a member of the public on Thursday 15
November.
Police received a call reporting the discovery at 6:50am.
Officers attended the park and a scene has been put in place.
The death is being treated as suspicious.
A 42-year-old man from Ipswich has been arrested on suspicion of
murder. He has been taken to the Martlesham Police Investigation
Centre where he awaits questioning.
Police are making inquiries in order to identify the deceased
and a post mortem will be held in due course.
