Ipswich – Robbery at newsagent

A man who was arrested in connection with a robbery at a newsagent in Ipswich at the beginning of this week has been released under investigation.

The incident occurred just after 9.30pm on Monday 25 February at the premises in Fore Street, near to the junction with Duke Street.

A man entered the shop and approached the counter demanding money from the till. The shopkeeper initially thought the suspect was joking, but he then brandished a blue-handled kitchen knife and went behind the counter, pulled the till out and ran out of the building with it.

Yesterday morning, Thursday 28 February, officers arrested a 33-year-old man from Ipswich on suspicion of robbery. He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and subsequently released under investigation pending further enquires.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Fore Street, Neptune Quay, Coprolite Street or Duke Street between 9.15pm and 9.45pm on Monday and who saw anything that might assist their enquiries. This includes anyone driving in the area who may have dashcam footage.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery at a newsagent in Ipswich.

The incident occurred just after 9.30pm yesterday, Monday 25 February, at the premises in Fore Street, near to the junction with Duke Street.

A man entered the shop and approached the counter demanding money from the till. The shopkeeper initially thought the suspect was joking, but he then brandished a blue-handled kitchen knife and went behind the counter, pulled the till out and ran out of the building with it.

Witnesses reported seeing him turn left past the question mark sculpture on the Waterfront, and then left again into Coprolite Street.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Fore Street, Neptune Quay, Coprolite Street or Duke Street between 9.15pm and 9.45pm last night and who saw anything that might assist their enquiries. This includes anyone driving in the area who may have dashcam footage.
