Beccles – Update on possible distraction burglary

Police investigating a potential distraction burglary in Beccles can confirm that a crime has not occurred.

The incident was believed to have occurred on Sunday 17 March at an address in Denmark Road.

A man attended the property of an elderly resident to read the electricity meter which is located upstairs. On Thursday 21 March, she noticed that two items of jewellery had gone missing and believed that these had been stolen.

The items thought to have been stolen were subsequently located within the house and detectives are satisfied that no crime has taken place.

Police are appealing for witnesses after receiving a report of a potential distraction burglary in Beccles.

The incident occurred at around 10.30am on Sunday 17 March at an address in Denmark Road.

The victim - who is an elderly woman - states that a man attended her property to read the electricity meter which is located upstairs.

Yesterday, Thursday 21 March, she noticed that two items of jewellery had gone missing and subsequently reported the incident on Sunday to police.

The man is described as tall and middle-aged.
